Our State Magazine Empty Our State Magazine

Post by Elizabeth Lindemann Fri 24 Jun 2011, 11:04 am

The June issue of Our State Magazine had wonderful articles about OBX including Corolla. Any reference to OBX both editorial and within featured content noted the value of OBX to the state, The editorial title 'Who Speaks for the Coast' and the articles affirmed the work of 'its protectors, its defenders, its rescuers'.

I believe the articles provide wonderful quotable material and references for most preservation issues in Corolla, as well the authors and those profiled could be valuable voices for efforts to preserve the Outer Banks.

It would be great if the BOC members and county officials could keep a copy handy- it might serve as a good touchstone for the UDO and ongoing issues. One could look at each issue from a perspective of speaking for the coast---

Elizabeth, What's the title of the article? I'd like to try to post a link to it.

Thanks,

Our State Magazine Empty Re: Our State Magazine

This was the 'coastal' issue so several: and sorry just realized the May, 2011 edition.

1- Editorial, page 8 "who speaks for the Coast?"
2- "Saving our Coast" pg. 106 Where the Road Ends (about north beaches, wild horsesl and Wesley Snipes); "What the Shoreline Tells Us" pg. 148- (article about Duck ACE research); pg. 124 "King of Trash" (Carl Walker in Manteo); and interesting pg. 160 "Bay Beauty" (profiles Marc Basnight with header 'protecting its pristine shores has fueled much of his drive---re Shallowbag Bay)----would be great if we could get him to advocate for entire OBX and not 'sacrifice' one area over another to keep that drive fueled. There is also an outstanding essay 'weather and waves' pg. 80 that is a photo essay of what many of us are about.

Sorry for not something clearcut- each article has an observation and quotable quotes that suggest- if not the state, then this magazine with its clout recognizes the need to preserve OBX including Corolla.

And yikes sorry re not noticing this was May- when a friend sent to me, knowing my advocacy in 'june' I mis represented as a June publication.
